Puppy

My name is Puppy, although I have not been a puppy for quite some time. My real name was Orthello but I was always just called Puppy. I really didn’t mind! I have moved around a bit. I don’t remember much about much about my early life – I vaguely remember living at a yard with horses in it, staying outside and not being fed much to eat. When I was about 2 years old and I was taken into a home and put on weight. I loved to play with tennis balls. I know that my Mum loved me a lot but she wasn’t able to keep me due to a ‘change in her circumstances’ whatever that means!

Anyway I was taken away one day and had to go and spend some time in kennels – I was NOT impressed. I had got used to home comforts and didn’t like having to give them all up. I had a short spell in a foster home which didn’t work out and then I went to Bogmyrtle Boot Camp (as we rescue dogs call it). It is a place in the New Forest which is very nice but they always want you to eat good dog food (no human food), exercise and to do what you are told! I was not sure about that at all and I made my thoughts known. I escaped from the stable, I pulled all the curtains down in the annex and I answered back A LOT. I am quite a big dog and I can have a very loud bark when I want to. While I was there I had to go to the vet and have an operation – wow that knocked me for six, but I did recover!

My new Dad met me for the first time in October and I now live happily in Wales. I get taken for lots of walks and I am rarely on my own. I have a girlfriend called Cassie, who is much younger than me and truly beautiful – I think she is a Labrador! We have been away in my Dad’s motor home and I even went to some sort of bike rally where everyone made lots and lots of fuss of me – it was great! I am very happy and content (and much admired) now – long may it last! Don’t forget me! Puppy xx

Skye

My name is Skye and I am the prettiest dog in the world – don’t you think? I am also very, very bright and I can run rings around most people which is good fun and makes me smile.

When I was young I went to puppy classes and loved playing and running with the other puppies. I have always liked to play with other dogs; but it is the two legged animals that I am not so sure about – they are a bit scary.

I learned that if I barked and growled at people they went away which made me feel safe – it was a good strategy which worked well for me. With people that I knew and wanted to play with I put on my soppiest expression and gooey eyes so they would do what I wanted – I was very good at it!!

Anyway when I was about 16 months old I was taken out for the day and would you believe it, I was left in the New Forest with some people that I didn’t even know. My Mum and Dad were very upset but they were unable to keep me even though I know they loved me very much.

I was quite cross – I was put in a kennel in a garden and I didn’t know anyone, so I growled and barked whenever anyone came near me and showed them my big teeth. Oddly nobody took any notice of that so I tried harder to scare them away but ‘nothing’, so I devised a new plan – I told you I was very clever – I put on my prettiest look and wagged my tail a bit. That got them – my foster Mum started taking me out and I was allowed to go into the house. I still growled at the man in the house (I kept that up for quite some time) but eventually I decided that he was all right really.

I stayed in the New Forest for about 9 months and had a great time, going for walks in the forest with my doggy friends and playing, playing, playing – I soon had everyone trained! My adventure doesn’t end there!!

In November 2010 my foster Mum took me to meet some other people living nearby and there was another dog called Mal, who was bigger than me and quite handsome (but obviously not as good looking as me). We went and visited a few times and I played with Mal, until one day my foster Mum left me there.

OMG that was scary but I was a bit more confident by now so I managed all right. Anyway that was 6 months ago and I am here forever – look at me and my new friend! A big thank you to everyone who has helped me and cared about me – I am not so growly now because I am not so scared – my new Mum and Dad understand me and I love them very much (and I know that they love me) xxx

Gunner

Hello, my name is Gunner and I am a very happy dog. When I was young I was kept at the back of a shop in a yard and nobody really wanted me, and then some people came and took me into their home. I was much happier but they worried about my hair (I have lots of that) and could not cope with me and my muddy paws. I started to spend longer and longer periods of time in a crate in the hallway and I was very sad.

I am only a young dog and I wanted to run and run! I know my Mum and Dad loved me very much and were sad when I left but they wanted to do the best for me and thought I might be happier somewhere else. Anyway after a short stay with a nice lady called Melanie, where I got to play with some other dogs, I went off to a new home.

My new Mum and Dad let me go EVERYWHERE, and I have even slept on their bed a couple of times, although there isn’t really enough room. I have a great time here, running and running in the park (see how fast I can run) and going to Pets at Home where I choose lots of toys which I can destroy, but nobody seems to mind. I had a tuggy rope which lasted for 1 day, a solid ball which lasted about the same amount of time, but my favourite toys are tennis balls.

My new Mum and Dad are great and they love me lots – this is what they said ‘he really is a great example of a good gsd and we were very, very lucky to get him’ and I agree xxx

Louis

I didn’t have a name when I was found wandering the street (at least not a name that anyone knew) and so they called me ‘Donald’. I was with my friend who they called ‘Daisy’ but she was taken away from me and I haven’t seen her since. I became quite poorly in kennels with the most dreadful cough and I felt really tired and miserable.

After a while I was taken out of the kennel and they made me get in a car – I was really scared of cars and didn’t like that at all but I tried to be brave. To cut a long story short, I ended up at ‘Bogmyrtle Boot Camp’ – at least that’s what the other dogs called it and I was given a nicer name – ‘Louis’ which is much more distinguished.

I didn’t think it was so bad – I had tablets to make me better, I played with my friends and I went to see everyone in the local pub where they gave me sausages. One day I was doing just that when a couple came over and made a big fuss of me – I put on my most appealing face and gave them my paw. Little was I to know that after meeting me albeit briefly, they were to be my new family – they were so taken with me that they tracked me down and ended up adopting me! How lucky is that?

I have a great time now going on long walks and playing with other dogs – I LOVE to play with other dogs! I also like running on the beach and playing in the waves. I am getting braver about the car as I know that it usually takes me to nice places. I am not always perfect (or so they say) for example my new Mum and Dad took exception to me standing on the dining room table and eating the pears (I thought they were for me!).

I have been enrolled in ‘training classes’ which should be fun because I can play with lots of other dogs, or at least that is what I think it involves – we will have to see. My life now is good and everyone that meets me thinks I am adorable – and I am!!!!

Eliza

Hello my name is Eliza and I was in the dog pound where I had been taken when nobody wanted me. I was on my last day and was going to be ‘destroyed’ but for some reason which I do not understand I had a last minute reprieve and I was taken away from that place with a couple of other dogs and I went down to the New Forest. I spent a couple of days in kennels down there but I didn’t feel very well and so I was taken to a foster home on 6th December 2010 – well that was just the start of it! I was pleased to be safe but I felt so awful – coughing and wheezing and my ears were painful and itchy as well. I can’t tell you how dreadful I felt!

I was taken to the vets where I spent a few days resting on a drip. I heard them talking about pneumonia but I couldn’t really concentrate on what they were saying as I felt too sleepy and tired. After a few days I moved into a foster home where I could rest and recuperate – I was still on medication and I kept being offered food, but I just couldn’t eat it – I still felt so awful. I just seemed to be getting worse and worse – I lost so much weight. Back to the vets again and I stayed there for a few more days and then was taken to a different vet in Winchester. I was really struggling to breathe and was so tired. I had to have lots of nasty tests but I was very good and put up with it all. They let me come out of the vets on Boxing Day and I went back to my first foster home – they were not very nice to me there – they kept pummelling my chest (‘coupage’ they called it, but I called it ‘torture’) – I didn’t like it at all! I was given five meals a day and I actually started to eat a bit more. Slowly I continued to improve but it took ages and ages. I am told that I had severe bronchopneumonia and consolidation of the ventral parts of my lung, but I am sure that it was much worse than that – I just felt like I wanted to die!

Anyway things are looking up now I went to my new home (my second fosterers fell in love with me and wanted to keep me) and am now off all the medication and I am not coughing at all. My weight is good and I am very happy – I wrap my new Mum and Dad round my little paw but I think that is the least that I should expect having been through so much. You can see the before and after state of my lungs from the x-rays – no wonder I was feeling so rough! I know the vets bills were very expensive (the total cost was £4,281.14) but lots of nice people helped towards them and seeing me now I hope they think I am worth it!

Felix

My name is Felix and just look at the state of me when I was found!!! They said I was ‘underweight and neglected’ at the pound where I spent my mandatory 7 days before I was to be murdered as yet another unwanted, ‘surplus to requirements’ dog. I was one of the lucky ones as a rescue agreed to take me on and put me on the road to recovery, so I managed to avoid the dreaded needle. I was taken to my foster home in the New Forest, on 4th December 2010, where I was allowed to rest and recuperate.

My skin was very sore and itchy and I was sooo hungry all the time. The first thing that happened to me at the foster home was that I was taken off to see a nice vet called Felicity who was very kind to me. I didn’t mind her looking at me as I sensed that she wanted to help me. Everyone was very kind! I was given 6 meals a day - I had never had so much food and it was fresh chicken, fish and everything. I had lots of antibacterial washes (whatever they are) and I smelt lovely! I had lots of tablets to take and I had sprays and drops for my ears – all this attention made me feel very important. I was still a bit cold though and so I was even given my own coat to wear so that I could play in the snow and stay warm – look at me playing in the snow!

As I started to feel a bit better and I had a bit more energy I got to play with some friends – first Louis, then Dixie and then Elvis – that was great fun racing round and round the garden and I had never felt so good! I had to keep on taking tablets because whenever I stopped taking them I became all itchy again, but I didn’t mind taking the tablets as they made me feel so good!

One day some nice people came to see me and I think they quite liked me because after that day they kept coming back and taking me out for a walk which was great. Then I went to their house to stay with them, but I was very lucky because I still got to see my friend Felicity at the vets and she still looked after me. I was a bit put out after a while because I had to do ‘training’ – what had happened to my new life of play, play, play and getting everything my own way? I really don’t mind though I am learning lots of new things and my new Mum and Dad are very nice and say that I can stay here forever. Here is a picture of me in my garden – don’t I look different? I never knew that I could be so handsome – all I needed was some food and some tablets and now I am stunning (modesty was never my strong point).

I just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who has helped me – I know all those tablets and washes were not cheap and I was told that lots of people donated towards my care – I am very lucky – it could all have ended up so differently; I dread to think! Now I am off all the medication and am looking forward to the rest of my life with my new family! Hoorah!

Samba

My name is Samba. I am a very pretty girl but I do get quite worried and stressed about things.

I lived in lots of different places until I came into the rescue and then after spending a little while in kennels, I went off to a new home in Somerset.

I have to say that I didn’t think I would be staying long so I didn’t want to get too settled. I do not really like other dogs much and do worry when away from my home.

Well it turned out that I was wrong! I am still here a year later and my new family love me very much – I am getting a little better when out and about and am generally happier with life in general. I hope that they let me stay for ever and ever!

Sasha

My name is Sasha and I used to have a miserable life, but now everything is much better. I don’t really like talking about my past very much.

I first came into the rescue in February 2010, having lived with a family with a child who tormented me even when I was in my crate (which was most of the time). That was my second home as well – I don’t remember much about where I lived before that. I spent some time in kennels, but I have to say that it was a bit of a relief as nobody poked at me or teased me, but I did miss human company.

One day I went off to a new home and I was very pleased, but everything happened so fast and I had to do so many things and meet so many new people that I got really scared, and I was actually quite relived when I went back to the kennels where I felt safe and nobody put any pressure on me.

Anyway it was June 2010 before my forever family came to see me and they were worth the wait. I have a big garden and 17 acres of farmland to play in. I have lots of friends, horses, cats and goldfish and some visiting canine friends too.

I wasn’t too sure about the cats to start off with – they are for chasing aren’t they? Anyway I am not allowed to chase them now and we have to be friends.

I have a big family and so I am rarely left on my own. Life is very different for me now – just look at me with my big stick!

Zeus

My name is Zeus and I used to live with Storm and our puppy, Jerry Lee. Everyone said that we all looked the same and we used to have fun by pretending to be each other to confuse people. I am not really sure what happened, but after a bit of a rough time (which I don’t like to talk about), we were taken down to the New Forest on a big adventure. We had to have a bath and brush up as apparently we were all a bit smelly (but I didn’t really notice that). Anyway we went and stayed in some nice kennels for a while and we were all able to stay together which was really nice – we got lots of fuss and attention as were such an adorable family. I knew that we couldn’t stay there forever and I was the first to leave – I went for a walk with some people in the Forest and, guess what, they took me home. I was sad that I didn’t get to say ‘goodbye’ to the others, but quickly forgot about that as I was so excited at my new home. I get lots of fuss and attention and lots of walks. Everyone adores me and says that I am ‘the best dog ever’ – of course I always knew that but it is sometimes nice for others to appreciate it. I hope that Storm and Jerry Lee are happy wherever they are – I have certainly landed on my paws xx

Storm & Jerry Lee

My name is Storm and I expect Zeus will have filled you in with the history – he usually likes to go first! After Zeus left we missed him for a while but were happy to wait for our turn to come. We had been promised that Jerry Lee and I could stay together and we were happy to wait for the right home to come along. We were not in kennels for all that time though as we went into a foster home in the New Forest for a little while.

I think they needed our help at a fundraising event at, some where called ‘The High Corner Inn’ as we had to go and spend the day there entertaining everyone and playing in the garden.

I think we did really well – we helped to raise lots of money (I think).

It wasn’t long after that that we were taken on an even bigger adventure on a wet and windy day. We met some people by the Sea and carried on our journey down to Devon where we live with two other dogs. We have a great time, lots of walks, lots of fuss and lots of attention – to be honest it really is quite exhausting!

Jerry Lee disgraced himself as soon as he arrived by jumping in the swimming pool, but he soon calmed down and he hasn’t done it again. I think we will probably stay here – it is not a bad place to live!

Kayla

Hello everyone. My name is Kayla.

I came into the rescue centre when my previous owners were unable to keep me due to illness in the family. I know that they were very sad to give me up and I was sorry to leave them.

I lived in kennels for about 6 weeks where Auntie Alison and Graham looked after me very well but it wasn’t like having my own home.

One day just before Christmas Auntie Alison came to the kennels and took me for a lovely walk in the New Forest with two other people. I must have made a good impression because later that day these people came back to the kennels and this time they put me in their car and took me home with them to Buckinghamshire.

Christmas was lovely and I even had my own presents under the Christmas tree. I was a bit naughty when I could not resist that bit of Stilton cheese that was on the edge of the table. It was not something I usually do, as I try to be a good dog but it was sooo.. tempting as it smelt so good.

I love living here and go for long walks every day through the woods and the countryside where I enjoy playing with my ball. Sometimes we go with other members of the family which I really like.

My new mum and dad think I am lovely and are always saying how well behaved and loving I am. They think I am very intelligent and know that I have learnt lots of good things from my previous family.

I also love playing with the grandchildren and their mum and dad when they come over, especially in the garden chasing my ball. They live quite close by so I see them often. I also like it when my mum and dad’s son and his wife come to see me as they also like to play games with me.

I hope that all the friends I met whilst in the kennels also get nice homes quickly.

Polar

I used to be called Tucker but I am now called Polar which is much nicer, don’t you think? I don’t really remember my early history or how I came to be in the rescue, but I had a cigarette burn on my nose and I was quite overweight. I have a vague memory of being tormented by some young people and then I was taken to some kennels, then to other kennels (where I stayed for quite a while) until I went down to Kent somewhere. I was left out in the big field and, apart from seeing a few dogs through the fence, I didn’t really get to see anyone or do anything. I remember that it was very hot and my coat was so thick that I didn’t feel all that well and I was a bit grumpy – well wouldn’t you be?

One day all that changed – I was taken in a ‘pet ambulance’ no less, all the way down to Devon, where I was given a proper brush and was weighed. I am sad to say that I was even fatter than I thought and I was put on a strict diet. I have been to the vets quite a few times and my weight is reducing. Also my coat is brushed regularly and so it is not as thick – I get to play with other dogs and even go to a training class sometimes on a Friday night. One day, my friend Lynne took me in a dog show and I won a rosette – me winning a rosette – imagine that! Lynne was so pleased with me (and I know she loves me lots) that she and K9 Focus agreed to adopt me and so I get to stay here forever and ever. I know at times I have been a bit grumpy and misunderstood but I am not a bad dog and now I feel healthier and better in myself I can just see the future getting brighter and brighter x

Bracken

My name is Bracken and I first met the people at the recue in June 2010. The family who I lived with were worried about me because I kept nibbling at them and they thought that I was biting – I was only trying out my teeth, being only a puppy. Anyway I was lucky enough to find a home fairly quickly but, sadly, things didn’t work out there either so I had to go back to the rescue.

I spent a little time in kennels and then was taken home by my friend, Wendy, who I had met before – I stayed with Lilly and Diesel (I think his name used to be Shadow) and I had another friend called Teddy who I saw regularly. Anyway to cut a long story short, they all love me so much that they have said that I can stay, even though I still forget not to pull the bins out and jump up. I am still only a young dog and I like to try things out! I have lots of walks and great fun romping on the forest with my friends. I am really settled now and I think everyone agrees that I am very handsome – what do you think?

Aramina

Aramina here – I came to the rescue in May 2010, along with my brother, Shadow. I was a bit confused but was very well behaved when my old Mum and Dad left me, then Shadow was taken off and I was taken to a strange place (which I now know was a foster home). There was another dog there called, Max, some cats and a rabbit. I quickly made myself at home by jumping in the pond as it was quite hot and I had a thick coat.

I had to take some medicine every day – not sure what that was for and I kept getting taken back to the vets, they said to get the levels right, but I didn’t mind as every time I went I got lost of fuss and treats. My foster family looked after me really well and took me for walks in the forest every day (I’d never been walking in the forest before) – it was great fun and I had plenty of exercise and fuss. I started to get used to being here and I quite liked it and I know that they were getting fond of me. I was very sad to think that I would have to move on again as I did not know where I would end up and got quite scared at the thought of being on my own. Anyway one day it all turned out right as my foster family said that I could stay forever and ever!!!! I still have to take medicine every day but they don’t seem to mind that and I am now looking forward to my very first Christmas with my new family – I can’t wait!

Angus

My name is Angus and I first met the people at the rescue in July 2010 when my Dad had to go to work abroad and I had to find a new home. I had got myself into a bit of an unhealthy state – you know what it’s like as you get a bit older, you don’t notice the pounds creeping on! Anyway they weighed me at the rescue and they said that I was over 60 kilos (I can’t believe that I was that heavy). They gave me a bit of a rest in some kennels whilst it was very hot – I have got a big thick coat (that probably accounted for most of the weight) and then they were really mean and sent me to ‘boot camp’ in the New Forest.

I hated it there at first, they made me walk several times a day and even made me climb a big mountain every day (well that’s what it seemed like to me). I had to keep going to the vets so they could check up on me and make sure I wasn’t ‘snacking’ outside meal times and the weight kept coming off. Sometimes I had to play with some other dogs and they made me run around as well – I thought I was quite athletic, but still they kept on saying I had to lose more weight. I hope you are all feeling sorry for me now – they were horrible to me and kept calling me names like ‘the honey monster’ and ‘Dudley Dursley’ – I don’t know what they meant but it sounded like they were not being very nice to me. They also kept on brushing me all the time which was very boring – all I wanted was a fuss and cuddles!

Anyway you will be pleased to hear that I finally managed to escape from boot camp in October 2010. Some nice people came to see me and thought that I wasn’t too bad and so they decided to take me home. Well I was mightily relieved I can tell you. My new Mum and Dad had been told to keep me on my special diet food, but they are not so strict with me – they give me dental chews and pieces of apple which I love. When they go out and leave me for a little while (which isn’t very often) I have a bit of a snooze on their bed (while the cat’s away the mice do play) and then I give them such a welcome when they come home so they don’t notice anything awry and I don’t get in trouble. I do love my new family very, very much – when they go upstairs for a while I always like to run around in circles and give them a big welcome back, even if they have only been gone for a few minutes – it makes them happy! I still have nightmares about climbing that mountain, but I have a great time now in my new home and am very happy. What do you think of the new slim line me?
